Good old dirt

When we are outside, I am always amazed at how many times the kids will chose to play with sticks and dirt over their outside toys. The amazing discoveries of what is in dirt and the joy of getting dirty and not getting in trouble is much more fun then playing on a swing set or riding bikes a lot of the time. We just have to have a few basic rules like no throwing dirt or putting it in any one's hair, keep the sticks on the ground.....

  1. We've been having issues with kids not only swinging sticks at each other, but also throwing pine cones at other people's heads. We have (had) a nice rock border around our tree in the front yard, too. Except that Gloria got all the other girls to help her dismantle sections of it and throw the rocks onto the side walk.

    Ah, the joys of Spring!

  2. Our pine cones are prickly so the kids don't play with them, occasionally load a bunch in the wagon....
